Buoyant, Buoyed, and Basking.

Aegean sea turtle

Continuing my theme of water here is a poem by Scott Cairns. I have not visited Greece or the Aegean sea, but this turtle might persuade me otherwise! Enjoy!

Sleepwalking on Water

No boatman, no boat, not much
sense of direction beyond
elsewhere, beyond I must needs
get me hence.
Late in the day,
I had stepped once more into
the Aegean. I had shed
the day’s residue, and was
surprised yet again by how
Aegean saltiness lifts
the body, how easily
I lay upon its waters.
I swam a bit, then rolled
to meet the white Aegean
sky. I must have briefly slept.
I startle awake, still held
atop those waters -buoyant
buoyed, and basking.

Whether awake or asleep
I do not know.

Prayer:
May the Strength of God guide us.
May the Power of God preserve us.
May the Wisdom of God instruct us.
May the Hand of God protect us.
May the Way of God direct us.
May the Shield of God defend us.
May the Angels of God guard us.
May Christ be with us!
May Christ be before us!
May Christ be in us,
Christ be over all!
May Thy Grace, Lord,
Always be ours,
This day, O Lord, and forevermore. Amen. (prayer of St. Patrick)
