Just for the fun of it!

I picked it up from the library shelf – Musical Tables poems by Billy Collins. As the dust cover reads “Billy Collins puts the fun back in profundity.” He loves small poems, so today it is time to just enjoy the words and let them take you to wherever and to think whatever! I share 3 from this 2022 publication. Take a moment just to imagine. Have some fun today.

Medieval Photography

Nothing came out very well.
People thought sitting still was odd.
Black and white had yet to be conceived,
even though many days were grey
with low clouds and unpredictable rain.
You remembered someone by closing your eyes.

My parent’s grave
is 1198 miles north of here.

17 hours and 23 minutes
from now,
I’ll make believe I’m there.

The First Straw

The camel felt nothing
as it stood outside the tent,
its nose lifted in the thin desert air.

Prayer:
Lord God,
thank you
for the rising sun,
for the full moon,
for the white snow,
for vanilla ice cream.
Lord God,
thank you
for hope,
for love,
for another new day. Amen.

  1. These are indeed fun! I hope that all parents teach their children to use their minds’ eyes, for in doing so, lots of discovery can be found. I’m grateful that I can remember loved ones by closing my eyes and still believe that the best times are those without camera in hand so as to be fully present.

It’s a good thing that Google maps weren’t around when I was a teenager. They make distant places look so close and seem so doable, I’m sure I’d be taking risky road trips with my friends!

Well as for the camel, I’m glad he wasn’t hurt while being shoved through the eye of a needle. That surely would have been the last straw.

All in fun and a great way to start a New Year!
